It’s pretty much what you’d expect from two apps that do almost exactly the same thing that they don’t offer direct support for each other. You cannot transfer money from your Venmo account to another person’s Cash App account.
Nevertheless, neither Venmo nor Cash App have rules that prevent transfers from one service to another if you have personal accounts on both. It is possible to send funds from Venmo to Cash App using certain methods, although there is no explicit “Send to Cash App” button. We are here to show you how it’s done! Turn Your Cash App Into a Bank
You can use Cash App as a bank if you have activated your Cash App account. The process is as follows:
To get started, you’ll need to set up Direct Deposit on Cash App. Follow these steps to get started:
- Tap the dollar sign in Cash App. You will be taken to the My Cash page. Click the Cash button when you’re there.
- Go to Direct Deposit and tap on Get Account Number. There will be a pop-up window. Click the Enable Account button.
- The Copy Account Details button can be found under your account information. You can copy it by tapping it. Both Copy Routing Number and Copy Account Number should be selected. These will be copied to the clipboard.
The next step is to add the Cash App credentials to Venmo:
- Go to Settings by tapping the button with three horizontal lines in the Venmo app. Click on Payment Methods.
- Select Bank from the Add a Bank or Card menu.
- Fill in the required fields with Cash App numbers and select your verification method.
That’s all there is to it! In the future, Venmo will use your Cash App account as a bank, and you’ll be able to transfer funds between them the same way you’d do with a bank account.
Another way to connect the two apps exists, albeit with different features. Your Cash Card can be used instead of your Cash App account if you have one linked. Cash App will not require you to set up Direct Deposit in this case. Taking the faster option is as simple as following these steps:
- Go to Settings, then Payment Methods in Venmo, as in the previous method.
- In this case, choose Card instead of Bank.
- Enter your credit card information. Your phone’s camera can be used for this or you can do it manually.
The fact that Venmo can’t be transferred to credit cards may already be known to you. As a result, you might think this step will only allow you to transfer money from your Cash Card to Venmo, not the other way around. Cash Cards are debit cards by nature, so they can receive instant Venmo transfers.
There is a 1% fee for instant transfers, but the minimum fee is $0.25 and the maximum is $10. While purchases from authorized merchants will be free from additional costs, any other payment using a card will incur a standard 3% fee.
Two Apps, One Bank
Venmo and Cash App can also be linked to the same bank account, but this is a slower method. Using your bank account as an intermediary, you can deposit funds from Venmo to your bank account and then transfer them to Cash App.
The first step is to transfer money from Venmo to the bank account.
- Verify that your bank account has been added to Venmo.
- Select Transfer to Bank or Transfer Money from the button with three lines. You can find both options under Manage Balance if you don’t see them right away.
- Please enter the amount you would like to transfer.
- You can choose between Instant and 1-3 Business Days next. As we’ve explained above, instant means the funds will be transferred within 30 minutes after you approve, but there will be a fee. The 1-3 Business Days option is free, but the transfer will take longer – this is implied by the name of the option.
- Select your bank account, review and confirm the transaction details, then hit Transfer after choosing the method of transfer.
The funds have now been transferred to your bank account. You can pull them to your Cash App account by following these steps:
- Go to the Balance tab in Cash App, and then tap Add Cash.
- Hit Add once you have entered the amount (the same as in Step 3 above).
- To confirm the transfer, enter your PIN or use Touch ID.
Having completed the last step, you have successfully transferred funds from Venmo to Cash App. If you find it convenient to link your payment apps to the same account, you may find this method to be faster since bank transactions take longer.
